Galley
Modifications
- Wide Open Galley
*new 03*
There was still so much space in
the galley going to waste that I decided to remove the face
entirely. I put in two full length and depth wood shelves.
These make the entire interior volume of the galley available for
storage. The galley itself provides a lip for the bottom one
and on the upper one I put a aluminum lip to keep the bins in place.
Into this new space we put 5 clear plastic bins. The upper
shelf has a large one and a medium one which has a insert for
silverware. The bottom shelf has three medium bins. Each
shelf still has room for odd loose items in addition to these big
bins which can be pulled out like drawers. To enclose
everything I bought some sunbrella and edging and made a fabric
panel that attaches to the face with snaps. They work far
better than velcro keeping the fabric nice and tight. You can
unsnap the top row for access to the upper shelf or unsnap the whole
thing for complete access when involved in heavy cooking. The
look with the fabric panel installed is very much like the original
black galley face.
- Counter Top Storage
Attached along the wall above the galley are wire
organizers for plates, bowls and cups. In addition to these is
a spice rack, and two bins for misc items.
- Garbage
We mounted a garbage holder on the wall aft of the
galley. It has a nice closing lid and uses standard shopping
plastic bags as the containers.
- Pressure Water
*new 03*
In line between the water tanks
and the galley I installed a Shurflo Nautilus demand pump and a
Shurflo faucet with a demand switch in the on off valve. This
is a nice simple way to add pressure water to the galley.
- Water Tanks
We use two Coleman hard 5 gallon tanks for water.
They are located in the forward vee berth compartment. I set
up a dip tube system that can be easily moved from one tank to the
other.
- Food Storage
We use the area under the forward dinette seat as the
pantry. We have 3 large collapsible totes that keep everything
organized.
- 5 Day Cooler
The factory supplied cooler was junk, it wouldn't
even hold ice for a day. We wanted to use one of the much
better 5 day coolers, but one that would fit in the cooler liner was
much to small. I removed the cooler liner and built a base
right down on the ballast tools. It has raised corners that
locate the cooler. A 50qt Igloo 5 day cooler fits right in the
space, but is still just a bit to tall, so I cut out a section of
the wood compartment cover to let the cooler poke through. The
seat cushion sits directly on the cooler top which is flush with the
surrounding wood.
- Drink Cube
*new 03*
At first we carried a second
cooler under the table for drinks, but it was in the way. We
picked up a 40qt drink cube and attached tie downs to hold it
securely on the seat area just aft of the galley.
